I thought about making a new thread, but I guess I'll just try here first and see if it's effetive enough. I have a very important question in regards to the Iron Gym and the counterpart 'pro edition' Iron Gym Xtreme. The only difference of the two being Xtreme has different grip placements, and I was wondering what are the pros and cons of these? How much more or less effective will this be it as opposed to the original, neutral grip? Essentially, I need advice in which one I should buy and why (solid evidence and reasoning). Hopefully, people who have used one or both will respond, as that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

The 2 links you posted are the same. Just spend the extra $10.00 on the Xtreme dude. It's worth it for the extra positions. It ain't rocket science. How's that for (solid evidence and reasoning)? That's 10 bucks worth ;-)

Oh ****.. my bad, edited. And it's a whole different grip, meaning it could be better or worse and the entire model is different, so dunno.01-02-2009, 08:17 AM #5

OK, my point is that you get 3 more grip positions for $6.00 extra. Seems like a no-brainer to me. It's only a $6.00 difference, I'd get the Xtreme. Those grip positions will be nice to have.01-02-2009, 10:04 AM #6

There's also been talk of the screws with the new grip not being too sturdy and prone to breaking off. so yeah.01-02-2009, 11:00 AM #7

I had the same questions about the iron gym vs iron gym xtreme. on amazon, there were tons of great reviews for the regular iron gym, but the xtreme one seemed to be so new there were no reviews.
Hope it helps you out, and best of luck with your results.

I just purchased all three for an evaluation. Personally I almost killed myself on the Perfect Pullup, that and its to bulky to keep unless you have an area to install it.
The Iron Gym pullup was nice but lacked the wide pullups.
The Iron Gym Extreme is the ****. Yes the screws are a lil weak. But for some reason the way it uses counter weight it holds up pretty dam good. Add the easy uninstall and install operation I love it!

Hey! I'm just starting with the IronGym Xtreme. Could you share some of your workout routines with me? I really want to build my shoulders.

These things work fine but the key is, you have to be able to do pullups.
If you cant do them, this thing wont do them for you.
Its a good tool but how many times are you going to really use it for the money?

You can do self-assisted pull ups by using your feet on the edges of your door. That's what I did - now I'm up to 14 normal pull ups.

I want to purchase an Iron Gym, but need to check my door frame size. I have reads reference to it fitting door frames 3.5 inches thick. What does "thick" mean? Does it mean the thichness of the wall plus the thickness of the frame attached to the wall? E.g.
Room 1 wall/frame thickness Room 2
0 ? ?
/?\ ? ?
/\ ? ?
Just need to confirm because I bought a Powerbar recently and had to return it because my walls are too thick and it has cost me ?9 postage and the ?3.95 small item charge that is nonrefundable, so it has cost me nearly ?13 to try it out and find it doesn't fit. And I don't want to go through that again.
Assuming my walls will be too thick can anyone recommend another free hanging bar that might fit thick walls?

I bought this before all the marketing for the Iron Gym came out. It must just be me, but the way they have pushed the Iron Gym reminds me of Boxflex marketing tactics. Come on, i can see using the Iron Gym for a push up stand but watching them do dips and sit ups on it makes me laugh. This one is more expensive now but i have never questioned its construction and stability. Looks well worth the few extra dollars compared to Irongym.
Just my opinion though.

You can get the same pull up bar for cheap on eBay, it's just not going to come in a box that says "P90x". The IronGym Extreme is also cheaper on eBay, but I had issues with the foam wrapped around the doorway ends. Used the bar for about two or three weeks and the foam that's supposed to protect your door frame had basically wore thru.

My door depth is approximately 16 cm.
Can I use the Iron gym on my door?

I just purchased the Iron Gym Extreme 2 days ago and first I have to say that this is an amazing product. Im not exactly sure what the difference in price is between the old and new iron gym, but I would defiantly pay the extra and get the extreme just for the simple fact that you will have more options for muscle confusion. I love this product, especially for push ups because it allows you to go further down, and it reduces stress in your wrists. I am just starting to work out, and just to be able to do a variety of exercises with one machine has motivated me.
This is definatly the best purchase because its more than just a pull up bar and really should cost more than $40.
So to answer your question I wouldn't even worry about the pros and cons I would just get the extreme youll only pay even if its $20 more its definalty worth it once you start working out and are looking for different ways to confuse your muslces

From various Amazon reviews, it seems like the Iron Gym Xtreme may not fit some doors as the ends of the U-bars stick out (so the bar won't be flush against the frame if the door is not wide enough).
Would someone who has this bar be able to measure the distance from the outside ends of the 2 U's and give me the number? Also the total length of the bar would be cool too.
Basically, if the bar looked like (from above):
xxx|--| (x's only for spacing)
--U---U--
Measure the distance from the outside of the U's and the total bar length (assembled). If you have time, any other measurements might also be helpful to other members of this forum.
Also, some people have experienced foam breakdowns from the part that touches the moulding. What did you do about it? Just wrap the end in some old rubber bike inner tube or something?

I have had the original iron gym for about a year now. Although I don't use it much (I can't do more than 3 or 4 pullups), I now have indentations and black marks on myu doorframe as well as scuffs on the wall. I can probably paint over the black grip marks and wall scuffs, but the indentations are permanent.
Just some of the down-sides of iron gym product. Not sure if this is better with the xtreme version or the P90X product.
See photos on the amazon product page.
