Applicants must comply with the following general criteria:
• Must be a South African Citizen (no dual citizenship).
• Must have no criminal offenses.
Must comply with medical fitness requirements for appointment in the SANDF.
• Applicants applying for SA Army and SA Air Force (Pilot and Navigators) should comply with minimum height and weight requirements as stipulated on the application forms).
• Applicants will be subjected to drug testing, fitness, Psychometric and medical evaluation.
• May not have any visible tattoos (Legs, lower arms, neck and face).
• Must not be area bound (must be deployable anywhere in South Africa or other Southern African regions).
• Must preferably be single
AGE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The following age and qualification requirements apply:
18 – 22 years when reporting for MSDS 2024 Intake and successfully completed Grade 12, with the Admission Point Score (APS) as stipulated:
• SA Army. APS 17 and above, excluding Life Orientation (LO) – Level 4 Mathematics and Physical Science will be advantageous.
o General Musterings. APS 17 and above, excluding LO with specific subjects and levels as stipulated per occupation.
o SA Air Force (Technical Trade). APS 20 and above, excluding LO with Mathematics, Physical Science and English with at least level 4.
o SA Air Force (Engineer). APS 35 and above, excluding LO with Mathematics, Physical Science and English with at least level 4.
• SA Navy (Combat, Technical Engineering): APS 24 and above, excluding LO and Mathematics and Physical Science with at least level 4 for both subjects (NO Mathematical Literacy).
• SA Navy (Support). APS 24 and above, excluding LO with specific subjects and levels as stipulated per occupation.
• SA Navy (Divers and Submariners).
o Divers. APS 20 and above, excluding LO and Mathematics with least level 3 (NO Mathematical Literacy).
o Submariners. APS 24 and above, excluding LO and Mathematics and Physical Science with at least level 4 for both subjects (NO Mathematical Literacy).
• SA Military Health Service. APS of 24, excluding LO for all available occupations with specific subjects and levels as stipulated per medical/nursing occupation.
18 – 24 years when reporting for MSDS 2024 Intake and successfully completed Grade 12 with APS 20, excluding LO with specific subjects and levels as stipulated:
• SA Air Force (Pilots/Navigators).
o Mathematics, Physical Science and English minimum (Level 4).
o Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science and English minimum (Level 4).
18 – 26 years if in possession of a three (3) year Tertiary qualification (Degree, National Diploma or N6 with N4 and N5 prescripts):
• SA Air Force (Engineers). Industrial Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering.
• SA Navy (Engineering). Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
• SA Military Health Service.
o Public Relations and Journalism.
o Organisational Study.
o Medical/nursing occupations.

Applicants should note that the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) does not have any online application system. Forms can be downloaded from the official SANDF Social Media or obtained from the above-mentioned venues. Applicants are to sign and date the application form.
